In Memoriam – Yael Jason

Yael Sara Jason (1982-2014)

We are devastated that Yael Jason, one of the original co-chairs for many years and inspiration behind The Snowflake Ball, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in summer 2014, at the unbearably tender age of 32. Well-known for her gorgeous smile, Yael was a beautiful, brilliant, funny, charismatic, fascinating, thoughtful young woman, with a flair for writing and creativity, and with so many desires for the future and plans in the works. Yael had suffered from health issues from a very young age, including being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 10 and more recently suffering from debilitating, chronic illnesses, but she still tirelessly devoted herself to making a difference in the community. We feel that one way to honour Yael’s memory and her radiant spark is to turn our desperate grief into a positive force to help others and the 2015 ball will celebrate her amazing story and extraordinary dedication.

Here is the beautiful tribute video to Yael, which was generously created by Affinity Production Group:

Here’s a link to CTV Ottawa footage from the 2012 ball, in which Yael spoke passionately and so eloquently about creating awareness for and not being embarrassed by inflammatory bowel disease, which was rarely discussed when she was first diagnosed with colitis and is still often considered a closet disease:
